Mark’s Journey
From Darkness to Light with High Hopes

Mark, a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, aerospace engineer, and devoted father and husband, was living a vibrant, active life. He managed school runs for his teenage daughter, stayed physically fit, and embraced each day with purpose. But everything changed suddenly- without warning. One day, Mark lost his vision and was rushed to the hospital, where he received life-altering news: he had suffered a stroke, leaving him quadriplegic.
The stroke turned his world upside down. Determined to regain his independence, Mark embarked on a grueling 100-day recovery program through Veterans Affairs. While the therapy was vital, progress plateaued, and he faced an uncertain future.
That’s is when Mark discovered the High Hopes Head Injury Program in Tustin – a decision that would become a turning point in his journey. At High Hopes, he encountered something truly
exceptional: a unique, 50-year-old program staffed by dedicated professionals and equipped with state-of-the-art rehabilitation technology. Among these were the Quadrisier, a patterning machine that assists movement; overground mobility robotics; and a community that feels like family.
High Hopes is where the impossible becomes possible. Through their innovative approach and unwavering support, Mark began to make incredible progress. He regained the ability to walk with a hemi-walker, his strength returned, and his attitude flourished with renewed hope for a
full recovery
Today, Mark is on track to walk his daughter across the stage at her high school graduation – a moment once thought impossible. His story is a powerful testament to resilience and the
transformative power of what is possible.
Mark’s journey also serves as a reminder: supporting High Hopes is essential, because you never know when you or someone you love might need their life-changing services.
